Denying Genocide: Comparative Reflections from Armenia, Bosnia, the Holocaust, and Palestine
With Taner Akçam (UCLA), Rabea Eghbariah (Harvard Law), Valentina Pisanty (Bergamo), and Emina Zoletić (Warsaw); moderated by Michael Rothberg (UCLA)
Monday, November 17, 2025 at 2:00 pm US Eastern/8:00 pm CET
Denial is a recurring and devastating dimension of genocide, shaping how violence is remembered, justified, and perpetuated. This panel brings together scholars working on different histories and contexts—including the Armenian genocide, the Holocaust, genocide in Bosnia, and the ongoing genocide in Palestine—to reflect comparatively on the strategies, logics, and consequences of denial across time and place. Speakers will address how denial operates in political, cultural, and legal arenas; how it affects survivors, descendants, and broader publics; and what responsibilities scholars have in confronting denial today.
